Is there a mommy-to-be in your life who isn’t super sentimental or big on having lots of extra “stuff?” Is she someone who would appreciate something practical that she’s going to use on a daily basis? Then let this list be your guide! This post includes gifts that she will actually get plenty of use out of both before and after baby is born.
I also have a list of Pampering Mother’s Day Gifts for Pregnant Women for those mamas who need a little extra relaxation time.
1) YETI Mug
This might be my number one gift recommendation for new moms for a couple of reasons. First, what mom has ever finished her coffee before it got cold? None. The Yeti Rambler Mug keeps your coffee hot for hours! Second, the lid is essentially child-proofing your coffee cup. My daughter got a hold of mine when she was really little, and because I was using this mug and not a traditional mug, only a little spilled on the table, instead of drenching her in scalding coffee. It was in that moment I realized how amazing this mug is!
2) Hydro Flask
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! The mantra of every pregnant and breastfeeding mama. Like the Yeti mug keeps your beverages hot, the Hydro Flask will keep your water ice cold for what seems like forever (ice will still be ice overnight). Drinking two and a half of the 32oz bottles will get momma to her recommended water quota each day.
Stocking your maternity wardrobe can get expensive! Most practical mommas will likely appreciate anything they can wear that’s comfortable and flattering for their cute (and growing) belly! Here are some of my favorite basics:
- Maternity and Nursing Tanks
- Levi’s Maternity Jeans (pictured)
- Motherhood Maternity Leggings (with pockets!)
- Classic Side-Ruched T-Shirts
This might seem like a strange one, but hear me out. Newborns come with a lot of nighttime feedings where mom is stuck in a chair with minimal use of her arms. I tried listening to podcasts and audiobooks while I was nursing my first, but I only had wired headphones, and it was a MESS. Trying to manage baby, switch sides, burp the baby all while avoiding getting anyone tangled in cords was impossible. I just gave up. AirPods to the rescue! Give momma some good hands-free middle-of-the-night entertainment with these.
I have to lead with a disclaimer: Know your audience before gifting cleaning-related items! And while this one is definitely a splurge gift, the Dyson Cordless Vacuum is 100% on my list of top 3 things ALL moms need. There are no cords to plug in, and its super lightweight and easy-to-maneuver design makes cleaning up after littles a breeze. In our first house with the baby we kept ours right by the kitchen so it was super easy to vacuum under the table after mealtime (yes, it can vacuum both carpet and hardwood, tile, or laminate floors). And the crevice tool, which turns this baby into the ultimate dust buster, is perfect for highchairs and carseats.
It’s no secret that sleep becomes difficult when you’re pregnant for many reasons, one being it’s hard to get comfortable. This small Boppy wedge pillow plus a knee pillow helps keep the body in proper alignment making sleep easier and alleviating back pain.
The extra weight a pregnant momma carries can take a toll on her feet and joints. Some extra cushion in her step would help a ton! Plus, bending over to tie shoes when you’re super pregnant is an olympic event… slip ons for the win! Here are a couple highly-rated options:
Mommas skin absorbs all sorts of things from the products she puts on her body, and they can affect the development of her baby. Shampoos, body washes and lotions are notorious for having harmful ingredients in them. I love Puracy’s products, and so do Amazon reviewers! Many of their products are organic and all are made with safe plant-based ingredients.
Also with great reviews, is Puracy’s cleaning kit. Household cleaners also tend to be filled with nasty ingredients, especially fragrances, that can be harmful to a developing baby. Puracy’s dish soap, stain remover, laundry detergent, multipurpose cleaner and hand soap are all free of harmful chemicals, and they WORK. Similar to the vacuum though, know your audience before gifting cleaning products!
I also have a whole list of some of my favorite individual non-toxic cleaning products in my post on How to Affordably Replace ALL your Toxic Cleaning Products with Natural Ones.
10) Belly Butter
Help mommy-to-be avoid stretch marks and itchy skin (oh my goodness the itchy skin!!) with a good belly butter. I make my own with a combination of shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, vitamin E and several other ingredients, but if you don’t want to make one, Badger brand has a highly-rated one as well as Burt’s Bees.
